Hindi is not our National language!

Many of us believe that Hindi is our National language and some may say it’s English. Well, it’s neither of these two. The fact is that India doesn’t have an official language. It’s hard to believe; isn’t it? Yes it is surprising, but completely true. India doesn't have a National language and even constitution doesn’t have a part that declares or specifies a national language for our country.

This is something that most people don’t know and surprisingly, even many books on general knowledge indicate Hindi as the national language.

However, India does have official languages According to the Article 343 of Indian Constitution; India's official languages are Hindi and English.

These languages are officially used at Central Government level, but every state is permitted to have official language of its own, based on its own linguistic demographics.  Well, there are around 22 official languages, but still no National language.

How an official language differs from National language?
National language and official language are two different things. On one hand, national language is something that has a nationalistic identity and on the other hand, an official language elected for communiqué at the official level.

Many people in India didn’t understand Hindi or one can say that they are not comfortable with its usage. When you go towards the Southern part of India, most of the people use either English or their local language to communicate both officially and informally. Hence,

I would have died of Hunger if Ram Gopal Verma wasn’t there: Manoj Bajpayee

Mumbai ka don kaun? Bheekhu Maatre.” When I delivered this famous dialogue in movie Satya (1998), I believed that it will change my life forever.  People will say – ‘what a hero he is.’ Directors will queue up outside my house to sign me for their movies. As expected, the film was a huge hit and many magazines and newspapers praised my work.

However, neither did anyone called me a Hero, nor any director visited my home. I was sitting idle at my home. I was shocked to know that I gave my everything to the character; what else I should do? That was the time when Ram Gopal Verma came with the movies ‘Shool’ and ‘Kaun’. Thanks to these movies I was able to bring food to my home. I started to feel that Hindi films are not for me.

During that period, people like Anurag Kashyap and Dibakar Banerjee entered the industry. I started to blossom like a lotus flower. In between I also did some worthless roles because I had to meet my expenses. Nevertheless, I kept my craziness alive, with these roles, which had brought me Delhi from Bihar.
I was very young when this virus of acting entered me. I didn’t get the admission in Nation School of Drama (NSD). Then, I started taking acting lessons from the NSD students. Trust me! I have kept the same craziness for acting alive in me. If anything, I have become crazier. But, one thing has certainly changed in me that nowadays I have been able to come out of my character sooner now as in earlier days I would be glued to a character for months.

Why getting out on zero called ‘Duck’ in Cricket?

You must have heard that commentators saying ‘he got out on duck’, when a batsman gets out on zero. Do you know why? Have you ever tried to know the reason behind it? Well, if you really want to know the mystery behind this world then keep on reading this write-up.

There is an interesting story behind the usage of this word in cricket. On July 17, 1866, the price of Wales, Edwards 7, got out on zero while playing cricket. A famous newspaper wrote “prince retired to the royal pavilion on a “Duck’s egg.”  The reason that Zero looks like a duck’s egg, made the newspaper put it across in a creative way.

After this incidence, people started to use this world in test cricket.  As time moved on, ‘Duck’s Egg’ became duck and till date it is the world used when someone gets out on zero. However, in Oxford Dictionary ‘Duck’s Egg’ is the word that is used for zero.

Who was the first person to get out on a duck?
The first duck in the test match cricket was made in the match between Australia and England held in Melbourne in 1877. In this match, Edward James "Ned" Gregory got out on zero and it was said that he got out on a duck.

Who got out on duck the most?
This infamous record is held by the West Indian legend ‘Courtney Walsh’ who got out on zero 43 times.

Who is called Bombay duck?
Former Indian cricketer, All-rounder, Ajit Agarkar, called ‘Bombay Duck’ because he got out on 7 consecutive ducks against Australia.

Golden Duck, Diamond Duck and a Pair!
Do you now there are terms like ‘Golden Duck’ and ‘Diamond Duck’ in cricket?  For those who don’t know the meaning of these terms, we must tell you that when a batsman gets out on first ball that he faces then it is called “Golden Duck.” If he gets out on the second ball then it is called “Silver Duck” and “Bronze Duck,” if he gets out on the third ball. As far as “Diamond Duck” is concerned, it is the dismissal on the first ball of the innings. And when a batsman gets out on the zero in both innings, it is called a Pair.

Who made most ducks for India?
Zaheer Khan for India holds the record for most ducks with 29 scores of zero.  But, more surprisingly  the master blaster ‘Sachin Tendulkar’ holds the record for most ODI ducks for India with 20 scores of zero. Well, he played 463 matches, which is 30 matches less than the world record holder Sanath Jayasuriya who got made 34 ducks in 433 matches.

Cryptocurrencies suffer price drop in India after Bitcoin-ban announcement!

For those who have been investing in Bitcoin and entertained thoughts of owning a luxury car by the year end, make sure you check the price of Bitcoin and similar cryptocurrencies. Well, I am saying this because the price has dropped drastically when government of India ban announced on cryptocurrency .

This year looks like becoming a bad one for the Bitcoin investors. Yes, it is as the value of the world’s largest cryptocurrency has fallen by almost 50%. It has been noticed that approximately £31 billion gone off the total market value. Bitcoin has fallen to a low of (£6,343), which was enjoying a high of almost $20,000 at 2017 end.

In January, it came down over 26 %, which is regarded as its worst performance ever since January 2015.  Along with Bitcoin price, other cryptocurrencies including Ethereum and Ripple, also get reduced after the announcement.

In his speech, Finance Minister of India Arun Jaitley, noted that cryptocurrencies are not legal tender in India. He went further to announce a crackdown on unlawful activities involving crypto. One more reason of the regular price decrease of cryptocurrencies is the frequent word of warnings on cryptocurrency deals, which appeared equivalent to calling it against the law.

Arun Jaitley, while in his 2018 budget speech, said “The government does not recognize cryptocurrency as legal. All required measures will be taken to eliminate the use of these cryptoassets in financing illegitimate activities or as part of the payments system.”

Following the ban on Bitcoin in China, it was speculated that more countries can also do the same. This created a feeling of fear among the global investors of Bitcoin. Well, the fear was true as far as investors in India are concerned. Many cryptocurrency investors suffered losses in India in the last few days.
